Hi, I was wondering what anyone thought of my having my advanced strings class at the elementary school I teach at perform Eine Kleine Nacht Musik, Jump by Van Halen, Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring, Lowrider by War and Freebird for their Spring concert.

I am Back III
I have attempted in the past to get this blog going but nobody seemed interested so I stopped posting and quite honestly I forgot about my blog because my lessons studio has grown to 55 students, a strings class and a guitar workshop. Consider this my first post and I will go one day at a time and post something no matter how lame it is to me. All are welcome to post.

I Am Back
It has been a long time since I have posted because since January my home studio has grown to almost 40 students and I am performing at two local area Mexican restaurants. I have been busy learning music for my gigs; teaching my students in Hinckley and Wadsworth; teaching at two schools and playing for the music ministry team at church.

What Do I Listen To?
Hi
Often times I get a question from students, parents and other individuals I know this question: What do you listen to? I have not listened to commercial radio since I was 13 years old when I discovered KPFA Radio out of Berkeley . Pacifica Public Radio introduced me to the wide woderful world of music without boundaries. Today, I still listen to Public Radi in addition to Sirius Radio.
I listen to Jazz, Bluegrass, Latin, the blues, Cajun, Zydeco, Rock, Classical, Folk, Opera and music from around the world.
I love artists like Jose Carreras, Streve Morse, Johnny Clegg, Van Halen, Yo Yo Ma, Marc O’Conor and Ruben Blades. I willing to lsiten to anything for a week to see if I like it.

I was Ill and Now I Am Back!
I was ill this past week and that is why I have not posted. Today I taught strings at my kids’ school for the first time and I had a lot of fun. I will continue to assist the teacher until June and next Fall I will be teaching the advanced strings and guitar classes. I really feel good about this. Ever since we moved here in July I have felt out of place because for the first time I had no working connection to school. Now I have two schools I teach at: Sacred Heart and St. Ambrose.

Once A Year Choir Members
Hi
Any of you out there in a church choir? What do you feel about instrumentalists and singers who just join the church choir to sing for Christmas or Easter? I do not like it at all. We practice and sing all year round and then we get these guests who come in during these times of the year that I had mentioned, only to be critical about our efforts. I am not saying that we are the greatest choir in the world, but I am saying for what we do have in membership year round we do pretty well. I especially do not care for those music majors who come in assuming none of us know anything about music and we do not know waht we are doing. Last night at choir practice was such a case. There was this first year college student who was very critical of us all evening. I asked her where she was studying music, I was impressed and then she told me that her minor was in music; that really chapped me some. I did not say a word all evening. Come Lent I will say that we should not allow guests join us and I am not alone.
